In the case of urgent need when the practice is closed you can call NHS 111. Your needs will be assessed and advice offered or arrangements made for you to see a doctor.

Please do not ask to see a doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

Call 999 in an emergency. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

An innovative new service is available to help you find the right treatment for health problems, especially when you are not sure what to do or who to contact.

Developed by Kent and Medway GPs, hospital doctors, paramedics and other health professionals, Health Help Now is a free to use web APP which can be used on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Access it online at

Improved Access to Appointments

As part of a national initiative, from October 2018 the practice will be able to provide additional access to Nurse, GP and other clinicians in collaboration with other local practices. This will mean that you could be offered appointments at other practices between 6.30 and 8pm as well as appointments on Saturdays and Sundays. The reception team at your practice will be able to let you know what additional appointments may be available and book them for you.

Calling all patients with psoriasis

Canterbury Medical Practice is taking part in a new research study to find out how patients deal with and manage their psoriasis treatment. Would you be happy to complete at least 4 online surveys about how you manage your psoriasis?

Named GP

As part of a govenment initiative all patients are required to have a named GP. The role of the Named GP is to be responsible for the overall co-ordination of your care. This might be the doctor you usually see or, more likely, to be one of the other doctors at Canterbury Medical Practice. You can still see whichever GP you prefer regardless of who your Named GP is. If you wish to know your named GP, please ask or telephone one of the receptionists.

Health Help Now is a free website or mobile app that you can use to find the most appropriate local health service for common symptoms, and advice for people of all ages. Visit or search “Health Help Now” in your app store.

Online services

  • Book face-to-face or remote appointments with your GP, nurse or clinician without having to call your practice.
  • Request repeat medication at your convenience, with automated delivery of your prescription to your preferred pharmacy.
  • Have a question for your GP? Message them directly from within Patient Access at home or on the move.
  • Keep track of your medical record, including problems, test results, immunisations and allergies.
  • Securely share your information with healthcare professionals outside your practice.
